Service Description
Basic Life Support, or BLS, generally refers to the type of care that first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway. It requires knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED) and relieving airway obstructions in patients of every age. Please make sure that your employer/school will accept Red Cross certification for this class prior to signing up. Learning Objectives • Apply concepts of effective teamwork when caring for a patient experiencing a life-threatening emergency. • Integrate communication, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills during a high-performance BLS team response. • Apply a systematic, continuous approach to assess, recognize and care for adults, children and infants experiencing a life-threatening emergency. • Perform a rapid assessment for responsive and unresponsive adults, children and infants. • Effectively care for adults, children and infants in respiratory arrest. • State the principles of high-quality CPR for adults, children and infants. • Identify BLS differences among adults, children and infants. • Provide high-quality chest compressions for adults, children and infants. • Deliver effective ventilations to adults, children and infants using a pocket mask and bag-valve￾mask (BVM) resuscitator. • Demonstrate effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults, children and infants. • Provide high-quality BLS care for adults, children and infants in single- and multiple-provider situations. • Deliver effective abdominal thrusts, back blows and chest thrusts for adults, children and infants with airway obstruction. • State the principles of care for a patient experiencing an opioid overdose.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations are dealt with on a individual basis by emailing hellersafetysolutions@gmail.com. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice receive no refund, but they may reschedule for a future class offered by Heller Safety Solutions. Cancellations with 3-7 days notice may receive a 50% refund, or they may reschedule for a future class offered by Heller Safety Solutions. Cancellations with more than 8 days notice may receive a full refund, or they may reschedule for a future class. For rescheduling, note that not all classes are offered on a regular basis. Refunds are not available for those who do not complete the online portion of blended learning classes prior to class. Online module technical issues must be addressed directly to the Red Cross by calling 1-800-red-cros and asking to speak to Support.
